An unlimited eSIM usually means data keeps flowing after a set full-speed allowance, not that every gigabyte runs at top speed. A 1,024 MB/day threshold is about 1 GB a day and 3,072 MB is about 3 GB; after that, speed may drop to a rate such as 512 kbps. Compare the full-speed MB per day, post-cap speed, validity and hotspot rules.
- A 4 GB video-meeting day breaks a 1 GB/day plan, even though seven days total 7 GB.
- Data-only plans usually exclude native calls, SMS and a local phone number.
- Some internet calling apps are restricted locally, regardless of your eSIM's network.

The headline is not the technical specification
An unlimited label may mean traffic continues after a specified amount rather than that every gigabyte travels at maximum speed. On some travel plans, the operator grants a full-speed daily allowance and then throttles to a fixed rate. Other plans may have time-of-day, hotspot, network-management or non-rollover restrictions. A buying decision should be based on disclosed full-speed MB/day, post-cap kbps, validity, hotspot rules and whether there are additional fair-use clauses. A marketing banner alone does not answer these questions.
Translate daily caps into daily work
A full-speed allowance of 1,024 MB/day is about 1 GB/day. A 3,072 MB/day threshold is about 3 GB/day. Seven days of 1 GB/day does not function like one flexible 7 GB pool if you need 4 GB for a video meeting on the first day. The next day may refresh the limit, but yesterday’s unused allowance may not roll over. Calculate the heaviest expected day and choose the product whose high-speed schedule supports that need. Check when the provider resets its daily bucket and whether the policy applies to one device or all tethered devices.
Understand throttling without making speed promises
A post-cap speed of 512 kbps is approximately 0.512 Mbps, but this does not translate into a guaranteed usable application experience. Overheads, latency and congestion matter. Text messaging and low-bandwidth browsing may remain possible; HD video or dependable work calls may not. A source snapshot can record a nominal throttle value, but that value can change with the exact product. If you rely on critical high-speed sessions, treat throttled data as a fallback rather than equivalent to full-speed service.
Watch for data-only limitations
The service can allow WhatsApp, maps and most internet applications that are permitted in the destination, but it does not generally furnish native phone calls, SMS or a local mobile number. Internet calling applications can be restricted under local rules independently of the cellular network. Test required apps and check local restrictions, especially when traveling for business. You may keep the home SIM for SMS verification, but home carrier roaming charges may still apply.
A disciplined unlimited-plan comparison
For each candidate record the daily high-speed MB, post-limit speed, availability of hotspot, destination-specific network partners, package validity and final price. Compare these fields against your peak-day and trip-total estimates. A nominally unlimited plan can be good value when most days are light and you want a low-bandwidth fallback; it can be a poor fit when you require large, unpredictable uploads. If the terms are not clear, ask the provider before purchase instead of assuming the most generous interpretation.

Questions travelers also ask
Does an unlimited eSIM give me a local phone number?
Generally not. Travel eSIMs, including unlimited ones, are usually data-only: they support WhatsApp, maps and other internet apps where permitted, but not native calls, SMS or a local number. You can keep your home SIM installed for verification texts, though your home carrier's roaming charges may still apply.
Does the unlimited fair-use cap apply to tethered devices?
Check the plan, because providers differ. On some plans the daily full-speed allowance is shared by the phone and everything connected to its hotspot, so a tethered laptop can use up the day's high-speed data quickly. Others restrict or exclude hotspot entirely. Find out whether the policy covers one device or all connected devices before you rely on it.
Is a 3 GB a day unlimited plan better than 1 GB a day?
Only if you'll actually use it. A 3,072 MB/day threshold, about 3 GB, can handle a long video meeting or a heavy upload day that would throttle a 1 GB/day plan. If most of your days are light, the extra daily headroom goes unused, because it typically doesn't roll over. Size the threshold to your heaviest expected day.
